About Labels

By Sage Bishop

I started Labels in January 2004 and it was a lot of work; way more than I thought it would be!! However, luckily for me I opened at the right time in the right place and it caught on pretty fast (hear a sigh of relief). My goal was to provide a fun place shop that was the opposite of what a consignment store usually seems to be. It had to be organized, fun and fresh with lots of good quality clothes at very reasonable prices.

I did not think that I could fill the whole 2500 square foot store with clothes but thought I would have to rent out large portions of the building to make it work. Happily, there were enough fabulous clothes in Bellingham to fill the store!! In May 2007 we were voted one of the top clothing stores in Bellingham by The Bellingham Herald readers. Macy’s came in first, Gary’s was second and Labels was third. We were really excited to have that title and very grateful to our customers and consignors for voting for us.

In June 2007 I opened a second Labels store in Bakerview Square and that has been successful as well. The Square was a brand new center and I did not know if a consignment store could work in a fancy new mall like that but luckily it has!

In 2008, we tied with Macy's for the Best Women's Clothing Store by Bellingham Herald readers.   In 2009, we topped the list with first place and Macy's coming in second!  We are thrilled with the title and will do our best to maintain that standing!  Thank you to all!

A consignment store is unique in the way the customers are the suppliers of the goods. Customers are consignors and consignors are customers… and I think that consignment shoppers/consignors are the nicest, fun and friendly women! We get to know our customers because we know them also as consignors. I have made many friends through this store and know so many great women because of Labels. Consignment shopping is a lot less stressful and a lot more fun (a little bit of bias coming through here) therefore, the mood in the store is great. Thank you for visiting the website and I hope you come and visit our store.
